Monthly Bulletin from FAO ECTAD China (June)

The June issue includes updates on capacity development program on veterinary epidemiology for China, discussions on emerging pandemic threats and upcoming activities for FAO ECTAD China:

  • Recognizing the necessity for increased veterinary epidemiology capacity in China and the need for improved risk assessment in the country, Chinese Ministry of Agriculture has partnered with FAO to develop the China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (China FETPV). FETPV has already provided relevant governmental agencies with veterinary field epidemiologists who can respond rapidly and effectively to animal diseases events. The China FETPV program has also tailored short training sessions for senior executives in Chinese provinces. At the same time, a sustainable capacity development program on veterinary epidemiology is required for rapid expansion in China as there is still a limited number of trained veterinary epidemiologists in governmental veterinary services.
  • Emerging Pandemic Threats, new and emerging Zoonotic threats were discussed during project meetings in Rome and detailed categorization of viruses has been performed by researchers from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Bangkok and Rome a well as FAO ECTAD China.
